For over two millennia, those who believe that Yeshua fulfilled the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament have been challenged in convincing religious Jews of the same. After many of the main prophecies are discussed and it seems clear Yeshua is indeed the Messiah, the listener often responds, “But what about this prophecy?” Trust me, it can be discouraging – especially when you don’t have all the answers. We must study to know how Yeshua…
The scriptures are filled with stories of how God related with and led His covenant people to long for the Promised Messiah. We see God peeling back the curtain and giving Moses, Abraham and the other patriarchs, and the prophets glimpses of the Messiah, who He would be and what He would do. These Messianic prophecies are the root of Israel’s expectations about the Messiah. The writer of Hebrews acknowledged the same truth: “God, who…
The messiahship of Yeshua has always been controversial. In fact, in the church’s early days, confessing faith in Yeshua was asking to be shunned by loved ones and kicked out of the synagogue fellowship for blasphemy! But, even with such intense persecution, the apostles recorded some of the most incredible Jewish conversions of all time. Peter’s (named Shimon in Hebrew) message on Pentecost alone won about 3,000 souls in Jerusalem (Acts 2:41). The next message…
Have you ever wondered what the future holds for you? After this life, what’s next? Many passages in the Old Testament speak about a Messiah who will reign as King over Israel. Most of these prophecies have already been fulfilled through the Person of Jesus Christ, or even better, in His God-given, Hebrew name, Yeshua. They confirm His birth, ancestry, life and death, and they speak of His return, as well as His reign as…
Sharing the gospel with the Jewish people can be sticky. Unlike the Gentiles, an average Israeli knows quite enough about the Messiah – His genealogy, birth, mission, life, and death. To be effective in our evangelism, our grasp of messianic prophecies must be precise. As ministers of the Gospel, we must be able to give exact answers to the question, “How can we be sure that the messianic prophecies point to Jesus (Yeshua)?” God’s Commitment…
Whether or not you believe in the Bible, there is no denying that it is one of the most influential and widely read books of all time. And within its pages are hundreds of prophecies about a Messiah who would come to save mankind. In this blog post, we’re going to look at four of these prophecies and how they have been fulfilled in Messiah Jesus (also known as Yeshua in Hebrew). So, whether you’re…
How has the church historically spread the Gospel of the New Covenant in areas which have not been open to the message? There are places in the world that do not even permit Bibles to be published, or if they are owned, there are severe limitations on their use. China immediately comes to mind as does North Korea. Israel does not prohibit Bibles but it would certainly be a stretch to say that it embraces…
Watching the news recently you would agree that support for Israel from the United States is not as strong as it should be. We hear of the Israeli prime minister “snubbing” a visit to the United States ostensibly because of not wanting to meddle in election year campaigning; and our own President choosing not to meet with the Prime Minister on some of the occasions when he has visited. This is certainly not the way to treat our ally…
The Dead Sea Scrolls are some of the oldest living fragments validating the integrity of the Torah. To date however the scrolls have survived only in their native form as written fragments. That is about to change soon. In Israel Bible scholars will work with computer scientists and other experts in Germany to digitize and upload the thousands of scroll fragments in a computerized virtual working environment. Once complete, it will enable scholars and experts…
What do believers in Yeshua mean when they speak of Pentecost or Shavuot? The Feast of Pentecost was one of many important feasts instituted by God in the Old Testament. It took place fifty days after Passover, and because of this, it is sometimes called the Feast of Weeks (seven weeks). (Lev. 23:15-16) It is also called the Feast of the Harvest several times in Leviticus 23; this is one of the most revealing names…
